Kathmandu. Supporters of Kathmandu Metropolitan Mayor Balen Shah have launched a campaign to 'unfollow' Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Facebook.
On Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Balen's secretariat claimed that Facebook removed his status. The secretariat claimed that the post was taken down by Facebook because someone had reported it. Then on Tuesday, Balen expressed the intention of removing his post by the government by posting that the post should not be removed, but the guilty should be punished. After that, Balen's supporters started unfollowing Oli.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Oli's page had 666,000 followers, but by the time this news was prepared on Wednesday, it had reached 590,000. So far, 76,000 people have unfollowed him.
On August 16, Balen posted a post on Facebook claiming that UML's state MP Rekha Sharma had raped a minor by employing her as a domestic worker.
Stating that no action has been taken regarding MP Sharma, Balen expressed his anger on Prime Minister Oli. The controversy that started after the post was removed has now reached the point of unfollowing each other's pages.
